2018 Millennium Technology Prize for Tuomo Suntola – Finnish physicist’s innovation enables manufacture and development of information technology products
Finnish physicist Tuomo Suntola’s innovative technology, atomic layer deposition (ALD), has made our lives with high efficiency smartphones, computers and social media possible. ALD technology also offers medical and sustainable energy applications. The President of the Republic of Finland Mr Sauli Niinistö presented the eighth Millennium Technology Prize in Helsinki on 22 May 2018.
The world’s largest technology prize will be awarded in May for the eighth time. The international, one-million-euro prize is awarded to a technological innovation that enhances people’s quality of life and promotes sustainable development. The 2018 Millennium Technology Prize is awarded by Technology Academy Finland.
Technology Academy Finland awards a Finnish biotech company: Millennium Distinction Award goes to MetGen, producer of industrial enzymes
Technology Academy Finland (TAF) has given the Millennium Distinction Award to MetGen Oy, a company specialising in directed evolution, also known as protein engineering.
A total of 72 innovations and 105 individuals were nominated for the 2018 Millennium Technology Prize by the nomination deadline. Health technology, biomedicine and materials and process technology received the most nominations.
Dr. Ari Ahonen will start as a new CEO in September 2017. Finnish Science Academies will also strengthen their mutual collaboration.
