The past year was great for Technology Academy Finland and for the Millennium Technology Prize. The nomination period of the Millennium Technology Prize was open during the spring and a total of 75 innovations (invented by altogether 257 innovators) were nominated for the 2020 Prize. This was the first time we received nominations from each continent. I was also happy to see that industries were active in the process. We need both industry and the scientific community to turn research results into innovations that benefit the whole world.
We must fight against fake news, false information and populism. As we highlight the extensive impact of science and innovation on the well-being of society, we established a totally new concept, The Millennium Innovation Forum. The Forum is a tribute to the Millennium technology Prize and it will take place on 27 May 2020 in Espoo, Finland. It will provide an inspiring and unique platform for discussing and exchanging ideas at the interface of revolutionary future technologies and innovations. We believe that future success is based on multi-sectoral collaboration! I warmly invite You all to participate.
The next Millennium Technology Prize will be awarded on 26 May 2020. The Patron of the Prize, President of the Republic of Finland Sauli Niinistö states: “Globally, technology has changed our lives in numerous, often positive, ways and expanded our world. However, at the same time, we tend to forget what lies beneath it. Commitment, persistence and a great amount of pioneering research work is hidden in the technological applications –.” I could not agree more. We need success stories and role models and we need to revel the great stories behind the innovations.
I am very proud of our community. Without the groundbreaking work of the Millennium Technology Prize Winners, the expertise of our partners, pre-selection and international selection committees, MTP-fellows, alumnis, and other professionals from both industry and academia we could not accomplish our vision for sustainable future. From behalf of Technology Academy Finland TAF I thank You all for the year 2019!
I wish everyone Happy Holidays and a Prosperous New Year 2020!
CEO, Technology Academy Finland TAF
