Millennium Technology Prize Winner Announcement and Award Ceremony in Helsinki on 22 May 2018

The world’s largest technology prize will be awarded in May for the eighth time. The international, one-million-euro prize is awarded to a technological innovation that enhances people’s quality of life and promotes sustainable development. The 2018 Millennium Technology Prize is awarded by Technology Academy Finland.

Technology Academy Finland will award the Millennium Technology Prize in Helsinki on Tuesday, 22 May 2018. The winning innovation will be announced at the Award Ceremony at the Cable Factory. The award will be presented by the President of the Republic of Finland, Mr Sauli Niinistö.

Awarded every second year, the Millennium Technology Prize is being awarded this spring for the eighth time. Academy Professor Päivi Törmä, Chair of the Millennium Technology Prize Selection Committee, stresses the importance of the international award for Finland.

“Finland is a humane high-tech country, and a technology prize that promotes the welfare of the entire humankind is a perfect way to express our values and strengths. That the prize is international further emphasises the fact that huge global challenges should always be solved together.”

 

Winner’s public lecture and the Millennium Youth Prize

The winner of the 2018 Millennium Technology Prize will give a Millennium Talks public lecture on Wednesday 23 May at 9 am in the Aalto Hall at Aalto University’s Otaniemi Campus. The winner will discuss the winning innovation and its significance for humanity.

Following the lecture, the programme also includes the launch of the Millennium Youth Prize, a new technology competition organised jointly by Technology Academy Finland and Aalto University. The Millennium Youth Prize invites young people to present solutions to topical challenges in health technology and new sustainable development energy solutions. The themes of the youth prize are chosen based on winning innovations of the Millennium Technology Prize.

 

The winner’s keynote lecture at EUREKA Innovation Days

On Wednesday, 23 May 2018, the winner of the Millennium Technology Prize will give a keynote lecture at the international EUREKA Innovation Days at Finlandia Hall in Helsinki.
