Record Number of Nominations for the 2016 Millennium Technology Prize

Awarded by the Technology Academy Finland (TAF), the Millennium Technology Prize is attracting ever greater attention worldwide. By the end of the 2015 nomination period, a total of 79 innovations were submitted as candidates for the one million euro prize, which will be awarded in May 2016. The number of submissions doubled from the last round (40 nominations in 2013), and the nominations encompassed 114 persons (45 in 2013), an all-time record. This round also included considerably more research teams per innovation than before. The Finnish scientific community was exceptionally active in submitting nominations. The largest number of candidates came from Europe and the United States.

Millennium Technology Prize nomination roadshow hits CERN

The Millennium Technology Prize awards technological innovations that improve the quality of people’s lives in a sustainable manner. To promote nominations for high caliber candidates for the 2016 Prize, TAF arranges a series of panel discussions worldwide to draw attention to the themes of the prize: learning, health and clean environment.

Marja Makarow Appointed Chairperson of the Board of Technology Academy Finland

The Board of Directors of Technology Academy Finland (TAF) has at the foundation’s annual meeting on 16 April 2015 appointed Professor Marja Makarow as Chairperson of the Board of Directors of the Technology Academy Finland for the next three-year term 2015–2017. Makarow is Vice President for Research of the Academy of Finland since 2012. She is also a member of the TAF Executive Committee since 2014. She served as Chairperson of the International Selection Committee of the Millennium Technology Prize in 2008.

Internship program to guide students after a gap year

Teknoloikka (‘Technology Leap’) is a programme by Technology Academy Finland (TAF) that intends to motivate young people to study technology. The programme consists of paid internships for high school graduates (or soon-to-be graduates) under 22. The programme offers 25 internships at 14 locations. The application period closes on 31 May 2015.

Nomination period for the 2016 Millennium Technology Prize begins today

Technology Academy Finland opens the nomination period for the 2016 Millennium Technology Prize today. Nominations for the prize can be made by universities, research institutes and other academic actors as well as companies all around the world. The prize is open to all fields of technology and all nationalities. The nominee can be an individual researcher or a research group. Nominations are accepted until 31 July 2015. The winner will be announced in April 2016.
